If you missed our September meeting you missed a really great event. Our meeting was held at the Silcotech facility, in York, SC. Many thanks to Dan Morris, Business Development Manager, and George Vance, Director of Operations. They put on a great show that lasted for just over an hour and served as an excellent introduction to liquid silicone injection molding.
First we were treated to a short talk about liquid silicone materials and then given a unique sample showing a variety of products by durometer. Each material with a different durometer was accentuated by a different color, and molded in to a configured piece that nicely fits, and makes for an unusual cover, for your iphone! Next we toured their clean room facility wearing disposable booties and a hair net.
It was a great afternoon that all enjoyed and learned a couple of things!
If you are just reading this for the first time, may I suggest that you might want to catch up by reading my first Presidents Message, and taking note of a couple of social events that we have planned for this coming year. Then have a look at our web page and find the appropriate page to sign up for these new social events. For example Christmas Supper at the Speedway Club on Monday December 12th requires one to sign up by November 14th.
(Please note that our new web site is just getting rolled out, so there will be a hick-up or two before it is completed-if you find one let us know! If you have a suggestion for the new web site, also let us know! By the way how do you like our new web site? Please let us know.)
Ken Morris is setting up a social event at Discovery Place which should be a fun afternoon/early evening event. Look for details coming soon.
We added two new Board members, Jim Brickley of Polymer Technology Services or (PTS), and Vincent Harris, of Scantech Americas. To both, I extend the Carolinas Section and Board’s welcome. We expect great things from the new blood!
Come and join us for a RJG Training talk and demonstration by Todd Bryant on Tuesday, October 11 at the Polymers Center of Excellence. (See our new web-site for more details. Supper will be Bar-B-Que from Shane’s!)
